They haven’t been released since the first time they were retroed in 2000.These shoes were originally released in 1989 (I was actually alive then). They’re now synonymous with Spike Lee as Mars Blackmon (the character my original logo was based on) and were featured in his movie, Do The Right Thing or as my grandmother used to called it “doin the thang right”. We all know the scene where the IV’s get scuffed by a bike tire. You can see the shoes in the upper right corner of the movie poster.

I wasn’t really into Jordan’s in the early stages of my sneaker collecting, so I haven’t ever owned a pair of 4′s before. I’m pretty excited about getting my first pair. This excitement is slightly tainted by the fact the the GS sizes don’t have the actual plastic lace loop triangle thingy. Ours is made of leather or whatever Nike’s calling it these days. I don’t see why they couldn’t just make smaller plastic pieces for kids shoes. Despite this terrible change in design, I’ll be purchasing them.

Interesting fact: The the pattern we call cement print was actually nicknamed “cookies and cream” because, it looked just like cookies and cream. That seems like something I would have capitalized on in my design. Oh well…. Don’t miss out on your “Power of Four” shirts to make your 4′s.

I love Fairly Odd Parents and there is a new live-action version of it coming out as a movie this summer. So, the thing I don’t understand is why they have Jimmy fast forwarded to the future as an adult still behaving as a kid in order to keep his fairy god parents. I guess sticking to the blueprint of a being a kid in the fifth grade wasn’t interesting enough, although I personally would’ve been O.K. with that. The audience whom the show already reaches is going to want to see this movie version that isn’t geared towards kids. I don’t quite understand the vision. Anyway……

After seeing the pic of the grown man from Drake and Josh sporting the Timmy gear I wanted to own a pink hoodie (another one). Since having that hat urge I decided to post up a what I think is a dope way to get your Timmy on. You’ve got the Pink AA hoodie and the matching fitted. Being the sneaker connoisseur that I am, the obvious way to complete this look is to throw on a pair of pink and grey Jordan 13′s. You can take keep up the color scheme with the pink, grey, and white Alessi Watch from the Kaj collection.

Now all I need to do it come up with a dance so I can crank that Timmy Turner.

Joshua Kissi from Street Etiquette put me up on this video, while having a discussion on what people from the “hood” used to wear back in the 90′s: Nautica, Polo, Perry Ellis, Timberland, Eddie Bauer and Tommy Hilfiger. I remember Wallabee’s and when Helly Hanson came on the scene, which seemed to be short lived. I can’t help but to think that the executives of Ralph Lauren, as well as the other mentioned brands, had to know about the subcultures created buy their brands. It’s pretty much their job to know these things, yet it is something that is almost never mentioned or acknowledged. Aside from Tommy Hilfiger, is seems that brands felt and still feel that embracing this particular demographic (inner city or urban youth) would diminish the prestige of their brand image. This isn’t a totally false concept, as Tommy Hilfiger had to revamp their brand image in the new millenium to pull themselves away from being considered a fad brand of pop culture’s urban scene. This video is about a whole underground culture that was built around the Polo brand, which is refered to as ‘Lo’ throughout the video. It’s very interesting and thought provoking to know that a brand that doesn’t acknowledge your existence can become your existence.

With fall fast approaching there are few things that immediately come to mind: Leaves (Michigan has the greatest fall scenery ever), Thanksgiving, calf length boots, and VARSITY JACKETS. I have been a fan of varsity jackets since I was little. I had this dope suede, navy blue and brown varsity jacket that I absolutely loved and my cousin used to always want to wear. It wasn’t heavy enough for Michigan winters, but I wanted to wear it anyway. I’m pretty sure I have had some form of a varsity jacket for every single phase of my life. Ironically, I only attended private schools that didn’t offer varsity jackets, among other things, so I never had an “authentic” high school jacket. Perhaps, that is what has continued to fueled my obsession with varsity jackets. I still have my old Ecko Red jacket that I bought back in high school. I don’t wear it too often because people think I’m 16 when I do.

High Quality: The sleeves aren’t real leather

One of my favorite jackets is by The Loots. I thought the design was very well executed and if I could’ve found one that would fit me, I would’ve definately bought it. I love that it has striped sleeves and that it has a hood, which is usually found only on womens jackets. I believe it’s called a sailor collared hood.

I have been wanting this jacket for quite a few years now. The Axel Foley, 1967 Detroit Lions varsity jacket from Beverly Hills Cop 2 and 3. I regularly check Ebay for it, to no avail.

Note: There’s a new Beverly Hills Cop (part 4) coming out in 2012. I’m quite interested in what this is going to turn out like. I also want to see if Eddie Murphy will be wearing my jacket. They should make the jacket the whole focal point of the movie

Everyone speaks frequently of Cary Grant, James Dean, Fred Astaire and the like, but there is another classic movie star that often gets over looked, David Niven. I think people over look him because he did more supporting roles than leading roles. However, he had impeccable style and was a great actor, who had a wide range of skills; he went from drama to comedy with ease and was great at both. The best thing about David Niven is that his cool could never be broken and he was always very distinguished. Not only was his personality distinguished, but so was his style. Many people believe that Cary Grant is the model for men in tuxedo’s and that may be true, but if David Niven isn’t equal to Cary, he’s a close runner-up. Simply put, the man had style and people don’t acknowledge it enough.

There have been reports that Warner Brother Films will be creating a movie about Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash in 2001. Bill Condon, director of “DreamGirls” will be directing the film. Canadian singer Keisha Chante is to play Aaliyah.

“We are going to great extremities to make this movie perfect. We have Chante in extensive training studying, speaking with family members, watching personal footage and in choreography training with Aaliyah’s choreographer and dear friend Fatima Robinson. This movie will be seamless the same way it was for Selena fans who enjoyed Jennifer Lopez. I can promise Aaliyah fans that this movie will be ten notches higher.”

A source for the film reveals that they “will be going very deep into Aaliyah’s life” and will allow fans to see the “most intimate side of Aaliyah’s legacy.” Sources say the script for the film ‘holds no bars’ and will go as far as touching on the subject of Aaliyah’s highly debated and publicized marriage and annulment to producer R.Kelly.

It has also been confirmed Aaliyah’s colleagues will be featured in the film. Her choreographer Fatima Robinson, Producer and friends, Timbaland, Missy Elliot, Ginuwine, even world renowned music video director Hype Williams will be apart of the film and help re-create the “Rock The Boat” video set which was the last video Aaliyah ever shot. The movie is tentative to start production end of March and is rumored to have a production budget of over 80 million dollars.

I actually used to want to be Aaliyah when I was younger. I cannot begin to explain how deep the infatuation went. All I wore was Tommy Hilfiger. I’m still mad that I never got the red and blue pants she wore in the commercial and in the ads and that my mom wouldn’t let me wear mens boxers under my jeans so the band could show. I also own an unusual amount of leather, including both the fitted and baggy leather pants she wore in “Are You That Somebody” (it won’t let me post it in here) and “Try Again”. The outfit was Gucci in the “Try Again” video and I wanted the belt (when would I ever wear that?). I remember accusing my cousin of lying when she called me to tell she had just died. She is the only celebrity I’ve ever cried over.

If you haven’t heard of this film, The Youngest Candidate is a feature length documentary that follows four young people running for office. It’s meant to bring awareness to the little known fact that US citizens can run for office at age 18. It looks like a great movie and has been supported by Michael Moore, who made the films Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11.

The director, Jason Pollock, has been working on the film for three years, but hasn’t been able to to get anyone to pick it up. However, he recently just announced that the movie will be premiering at the Majestic Crest Theater in Los Angeles, CA on June 29th.

The artwork for this film may look familiar. Legendary street artist Shepard Fairey of Obey did all of the artwork for the film and also blogged about his reason for wanting to do the artwork to help the film get exposure. You can read his blog here.

I really want to see this. I love anything that is about empowering the youth to do something positive.

I was sifting through the Digital Ape blog and I saw that Toy Story 3 is coming out June 18, 2010. I love Toy Story. I quote lines from the first two all the time. OK, well I quote lines from a lot of movies all the time; but this is definitely up there with my favorite Disney movies. I’ll have to post about that later

Hey, come to think of I think this gives me an idea…..
